And is a filling part 2 of a root canal by defualt or are these completely unrelated things?
Does the dentist put something in your tooth, to fill it just during a root canal? Or how does this work?

A filling is when you have a hole in your tooth and they fill it.
Root canal is when the root of the tooth has become infected or it has erupted and then it’s a long process of killing and removing the root and then refilling the tooth with something strong and durable. Usually it’s this plasticy hard thing that they insert into the tooth. It’s long and they shove them in vertical – as many as possible and then they close the hole.
I had 2 root canals 2 years ago – when I was 20, it’s not a nice experience.

Some of the above answers are wrong.
Root canal treatment is when the dentist drills into the tooth and removes the nerve which runs through the roots. He then cleans the canal and puts a dressing in before filling the tooth in the normal way.
A normal filling is either the amalgam (silver) or white filling that you can see.
No way does he remove the root. The tooth would fall out as this is what holds it in the gum.

A filling is a filling. That is you have a cavity in your teeth the dentist drills in the tooth and then fills it up.Where as a root canal is where the dentist has to drill the tooth a lot more than a filling and the dentist essentially cuts or pulps the nerve endings of the nerves so that there is no more pain and then fills up the cavity in the tooth.

root canal, they take out the molar and replace it with a fake molar which is embedded by a metal “root” like a rod but obviously one that will fit in your mouth. filling the cavity is drilled out of the molar and you keep your natural molar but it is filled
