I have already had a root canal on 2 roots. The pain has continued. The dentist at first couldn’t find the 3rd root. He now found it but was too painful to continue with the procedure due to infection. An option is an extraction if the inflamation continues. I am taking antibiotics. What is the advantage of root canal over extraction?

Hopefully you are still going to the person who did the root canal on “the first two roots”. He should have done ALL of the roots in the tooth for the price of a root canal! Since you have already invested time and money into saving this tooth, go ahead and try to have the root canal done CORRECTLY! Hopefully it won’t cost you extra to have it done right. Having a hot tooth just means that the infection is cancel ling out the Novocaine. (one is an acid, one is a base) Hopefully since you have been on an antibiotic the infection will be under control enough for the anesthetic to work. Good Luck!

“hot” meaning painful, inflamed
If you have this tooth extracted now, you will need to have it replaced with either a fixed bridge or a removable partial or the teeth will shift..
