Is the instrument suppose to be there? They want me to go to a root canal specialist. Is this necessary?

I have a horrible, horrible toothache. I can’t go to the dentist, so I was wondering if there were any natural pain relievers I could try?

Friday morning I had a cavity filled. The dentist said that it was deep and I might need a root canal if it hurts afterward. My question is: how long after will the pain appear or some other indication that I need a root canal done? It is now Monday afternoon and the tooth feels no different than before the cavity was filled (no pain or increased sensitivity, etc.). Am I in the clear?

I had my root canal done on Monday. It has been painful so I took painkillers but today I don’t need painkillers any more. Does that mean it’s been successful? I know some of them fail and to put my mind at rest I would like to know how would I know if it’s failed and how soon?
Also, how long can I have a temprorary filling before putting a crown on?

I had a root canal done about 4 years ago and now it’s hurting. The pain is the same pain as when I first discovered I needed a root canal. I’ve been taking advil every time the pain was present. How much would it cost to remove the root canal here in California?
