How soon after a root canal can I wait to get a permanent cap? I was told anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks, but if I were to wait 6 weeks, would that be okay? Thanks.

Friday morning I had a cavity filled. The dentist said that it was deep and I might need a root canal if it hurts afterward. My question is: how long after will the pain appear or some other indication that I need a root canal done? After double root canal dentist informed me that best option is Lumineers as he would not have to shave teeth down. He mentioned that not only would he need to lumineer the affected teeth but also the neighboring teeth. Is this normal procedure?
