I think I have an abscess tooth.
The pain started on the 22nd
At first I thought a wisdom tooth was pushing its way through because the gum behind my last molar on the left was sore. Then it became slightly inflamed both my parents said don’t worry let it do its thing.
Now its the 27th and my gum is so swollen I can’t close my teeth together so I can’t eat. Also if i press down on it, in between the tooth and the gum with a q-tip some pus comes out.
My dentist is closed till Jan. 2 I have called all surrounding dentist and none take my insurance. I am going to my doctor tomorrow to see if i can get any atibiotics. If not I will go to the hospital.
Does that sound abscess and what can i do to relieve this pain and swelling???

due to problems with my insurance i have had this abscess tooth for like 3 months. i know it is abscess because i went to the dentist soon after the little bump on my gum showed up so he prescribed me antibiotics and told me to reschedual an appointment but that never happened because of the insurance..anyway the tooth does not hurt at all in fact i have layed ice cubes on it and nothing i wondered if the nerve could be dead in it. theres no cavity in it but it has been over filled with fillings but i do know its dangerous to my health but my question is can it wait until after the holidays? i really dont want to be in pain for christmas! thanks

I had a cavity 2 yrs ago and the dentist said he would fill it and during the procedure he exposed the nerve. He said I would need a root canal, but I had just found out I was pregnant so I decided to wait. When I finally went to the dentist they said I had an abscess and I needed a root canal but they wanted like $1000.00 and would not accept a payment plan, I went to 3 different dentists and the same thing. I’m sorry but I think that is absolutely ridiculous, most people can not walk in with a grand to take care of a tooth. Anyway 2 yrs later and now I have been feeling really sick, tired, sore neck, dizzy, headache, sinus problems, just totally not like myself, I have passed it off as lack of sleep. Then I heard you can have a stoke or the infection can spread so I went to the dentist and they put me on erythromycin and I go back on Fri for x-rays. Is it possible my infection spread and am I ok while I am on the meds should I have more tests or am I overreacting?

I first discovered it about a week ago. Thinking it was a result of eating something hot, I popped it but it returned a few nights ago. There’s no pain or pus but there was some blood when I popped it again this time.

I recently had a dental abscess so I went to my dentist on Thursday, who performed a root canal, I was prescribed a small amount of amoxicillin to be taken afterwards. The pain has not subsided however, it’s still constantly there and I’m having to take a fair amount of painkillers each day along with using clove oil to try and stop the pain.
How long should it normally take to heal? Should I go back to the dentist first thing Monday? Any other advice?

The original root canal was done over 5 years ago. The crown fell off recently while eating pancakes. I was told that there was a cavity under the porcelain crown that runs under the gum line, about 9 months ago. Could that be why the crown fell off? How is that going to be fixed? Will I have to pay for another root canal and crown? Would they pull it? I don’t know cause there is one tooth missing right above it. Any ideas?

I have had one for about two and a half years now, and I have my surgery scheduled for three weeks from now. But I’ve been reading up on all of the different types of infections linked to an abscessed tooth and I must say, it is freaking me the $@#! out..
