I have had very noticeable swelling with abscessed teeth. The temperature--very good chance it is from the abscess. The antibiotic should be working soon though. I had an abscessed tooth in high school and my face swelled up pretty bad. It's an infection and you will get a fever because it's the body's way of trying to get rid of the infection. Your white blood cells combat infections so they are going to that area to heal it and an increase in white blood cells will cause a fever. You must be in some pain. Good luck with root canal.
