Is it normal to get very swollen when you have an abscessed tooth? Also, is it normal to have a slight temperature (~101 F)? I went to the dentist on Thursday and am going to have a root canal soon but for now I’m on antibiotics and ibuprofen and my face is swollen and I have a temperature.
Yes, very normal. I had an abscessed tooth in high school and my face swelled up pretty bad. It’s an infection and you will get a fever because it’s the body’s way of trying to get rid of the infection. Your white blood cells combat infections so they are going to that area to heal it and an increase in white blood cells will cause a fever. You must be in some pain. Good luck with root canal. You will be fine once you have that done. Be blessed
Maybe not normal but not abnormal. I have had very noticeable swelling with abscessed teeth. The temperature–very good chance it is from the abscess. The antibiotic should be working soon though. If the temperature continues–call your dentist.
Yes it is normal. An abscess is an infection and fever is your body’s way of fighting it.Be sure to finish your antibiotics. You can put ice on your face to reduce swelling.Hope you feel better.
Hello…Sounds like your right on tract…the swelling and the temp should begin to subside very shortly…If it doesn’t get back to the DDS for another evaluation. Good luck and I wish you well.
