If I Have An Abscessed Tooth, Can I Fill It With Temporary Filling Until I Get To The Dentist?

OK, so the pain is not consistent yet. It comes and goes and it’s intense. I’m wondering if it will cause more infection or if it would temporarily help with pain since I believe it’s due to food entering the cavity or hot and cold air. I’m thinking no, but my husband tells me to do it until I see my dentist. What would you suggest?

DON’T DO IT!!! The reason they put temp. fillings in some teeth is because if it abscesses they can remove the filling. Basically imagine taking a bottle of soda and shaking it with a cap screwed tightly on. The pressure from the pus and all of that will build up and cause a lot of pain. Go get a red cross tooth ache kit from walgreens, cvs, rite aid… It’s like $6 and contains a tweezers, cotton balls, and a bottle of clove oil. Tastes like crap..but made my dry socket feel 10000x better. Just dip the cotton in the oil, stick it on your tooth where the problem is, leave it for a minute or two, and take it out. It will help for at least a couple of hours at a time. Or leave the cotton in there if you’re worried about food getting into it. Just make sure to take it out and replace it every so often so the abscess has time to drain and to make sure bacteria isn’t building up on the cotton.
