How Long Does Your Tooth Stay Sensitive After A Root Canal?

I had a root canal 5 days ago. The tooth is still pretty sensitive. It hurts when I brush my teeth, or even put a little pressure on it with my tongue. I was wondering if this was normal. I guess I didn’t think that just a tiny bit of pressure from my tongue or brushing my teeth would cause pain. Also is it ok to floss right now?

I had my very first root canal (front tooth, lower jaw) just 2 days ago and asked the same question to my dentist. She advised me to wait for 2 weeks and not to panic if pain was taking a while to wear off (as healing around the root area is a really slow process she told me). At the moment I’m feeling exactly as per your description. I’m trying to floss but very carefully.

it is normal for it to hurt for about a week or so afterwards, rine thoroughly often with warm salty water. if your teeth ar ein good condition you may floss, gently… but it will hurt, so i’d advise to hold off and just eat less sugary foods for a while!

I had two root canals. one when I was 12 and the other when I was 15. it hurts for a little while after. it shouldn’t be much longer for you fortunately. just don’t have any especially hard things, or really sugary. feel better soon:)
