How Long Does It Take For The Soreness To Go Away After A Root Canal?

I had a root canal last Wednesday in an eye tooth and it is still painful. Even my nose and cheek hurt. Is that normal?

I work for an endodontist and it is extremely normal to be a bit sore for a few days after a root canal. I’d give it about a week or so. Your nose and cheek hurt because it’s likely that your sinuses were disrupted during the procedure. If you’re not feeling better by next Tuesday or Wednesday, give the dentist or endodontist a call.

Yes, unfortunately, normal. Except, if it is a lower tooth. You may have dry socket. Be sure to call your dentist or oral surgeon and tell them, even though it is the weekend. Keep ice (wrapped in a cloth of some sort) on the site for 20 minutes every hour and take some kind of pain reliever or anti inflamatory, such as Advil, unless the doctor has given you prescription pain killers.
