My dog has a front tooth that is broken pretty much in half. She is showing absolutely no signs of pain, discomfort, etc. But what if anything can vets do about it? There’s now way I’m letting her go under anesthesia. Ive heard too many direct accounts of people’s dogs dying from too much anesthesia. So if we do nothing, will the tooth just rot out?

That’s happened with us … our dog did die under the anesthesia and we could not even sue them as we signed a waiver in case it did happen. Our other dog has a loose tooth and my husband and I pulled it ourselves we had to keep a close eye on it … we used the stuff that babies use when teething, pulled it, applied pressure for the bleeding and gave him 1/2 of a St.Joseph asprin. He recovered better than we expected. Take care.

My 10 year old Golden dog broke his two front teeth a month ago and the Vet removed them under anaesthetic. He was only kept in for 6 hours and then I was allowed to take him home. He slept for the rest of the day and night, apart from eating about a third of his normal meal, and next morning he was back to his normal bouncy self. There really is nothing to worry about. The dose of anaesthetic is very small and in my opinion it is far better to have the teeth removed than have the risk of infection spreading into the gums.
The ‘Op’ hasn’t affected him at all. In fact, he is a much happier dog now those teeth have been removed as it was probably quite painful for him to eat before the operation.
Good luck.

depending on the dogs age, anesthesia isn’t harmful. the tooth will be removed. ask the vet what they think. she’s not going to be in pain, but it can get infected, etc. i wouldn’t worry about putting her under. vets do it all the time. ask what would be the best course of action.
