Filed Under (Abscessed Tooth) by admin

I had a abscess wisdom tooth and my oral surgeon did not put me on any antibiotcs and pulled it the next day…I have heard since then that your NOT supposed to pull a abscessed tooth b/c the infection can spread…this has really scared me…can I die from another infection?? Was the safe to pull without the abscess being under control of antibiotics?? thanks

Usually the abcess comes out with the tooth. You should be fine, but if your really worried have the dentist prescibe some antibiodics. Keep the area clean and rince with warm water and salt, it should be healed up in no time.
Feel better:)

I strongly recommend that you seek medical attention to the infectious part of the problem. Tell your physician about the tooth and allow him the prerogative of prescribing anti-biotics. Infections are serious and an abcess is an infection; however, death associated strickly from infections is rare in the United States. Most people do seek medical attention and are prescribed antibiotics. If you feel that your dentist did not conform to protocol, contact an attorney. He/she [attorney] may be able to quickly determine whether or not the oral surgeon was within or outside of professional conduct in his/her [oral surgeon's] actions. See the sources below for more information on the legal aspects of your tooth ache.

I know a lot of Dentist that have refused to pull a tooth is abscessed because of the danger. My friend had a abscess tooth the Dentist made a small opening somewhere and gave her antibiotics for the infection. About three days later something poped it was infection drainage. She called the Dentist told her to come in 2 days that would give the tooth time to drain. He pulled it and she had no problem at all. Maybe a Oral Surgeon knows more about getting to the abscess than a regular Dentist

hi, normally, anitbiotics are prescribed before extracting a tooth to ensure that no spread of infection will happen and besides, anesthetic agents doesn’t really work that well with an abscessed tooth, it could counteract the medicines mechanism of action. So if i were you i would go back to that dentist and ask for prescriptions.. just to be on the safe side
