I noticed pus coming out of my gum this morning and i am nervous to breastfeed my 3 week old son. I tried calling my trustworthy pediatrician to ask but noone called me back. Should i still continue to feed him or does this pus not affect him?

I don’t think it will affect him. You will need antibiotics, and some are not safe for baby, but I’m sure that your OB will know which ones you can take for this. You need to contact your dentist first thing tomorrow and have it pulled or have a root canal. It is cheaper and better for you health wise to have it pulled, but most dentists will tell you to have a root canal because it makes more money for them. My mom’s dentist told her that it is not worth it because most people end up losing the tooth a couple of years later anyway.

Yes absolutely keep breastfeeding him. If you stop your supply will diminish. As soon as you can go see your Dr. or your dentist. There is a small chance that the infection you have may pass along to the baby through your breast milk. That is why you need to see a dr. or dentist right away. But DO NOT stop nursing him until your Dr. or Dentist advises you to.
Good Luck

It’s fine to feed your baby until the dr prescribes an antibiotic for your condition…then you have to be sure the dr knows you’re nursing so that the med will be baby-safe.
