Abscessed Tooth: Can I Wait Till A Month Before Root Canal?

There is small pimple above a tooth that I have, which leads me to believe that its an abscessed tooth, with a dying nerve. Which means I will have a get a root canal done.
However, I need to go abroad pretty soon (Just a few days from now) and will return back after a month….Is it okay if I have the root canal done after I return back in a months time? Or is that a bad idea and I should have it RIGHT NOW?

That little pimple means the infection is trying to find the path of least resistance. It’s the whole reason you’re not having a painful toothache right now.
When you call your dentist first thing in the morning they can do a couple of things. Give you antibiotics, which will calm it down temporarily, but it will hurt again, but noone can say when. Or they can start the root canal. Where they clean out the canals, put medicine in there and a temporary filling. It’s impossible to say when it will hurt you but you would have a little longer with the second option. They’ll probably still give you antibiotics either way.

Tiffany gives a great answer and I would like to add that air travel tends to aggravate dental problems. In private practice, we always recommend getting treatment before flying. Those that have gone without treatment remind us why we make this recommendation.
Another important thing to note is that a dental infection is serious and should be treated as such.

First of all If you have an abcess then you’ll need antibiotics to clear the infection before a dentist can do anything. When you call your dentist for antibiotics ask him If you can wait for a month before coming back in to see him.
